Product information

A striking hardy annual herb, borage boasts rough leaves adorned with silvery hairs and charming celestial blue flowers. Its nectar-rich blooms are a magnet for pollinating insects, particularly bees, which produce distinctively flavoured borage honey. This versatile upright herb serves a multitude of purposes: its cucumber-flavoured leaves enhance summer drinks and salads, it acts as a companion plant to attract pollinators to nearby crops, and at season's end, its foliage adds valuable bulk to compost. Reaching a height of 60cm (24") and spreading 45cm (18"), borage adds beauty and utility to any garden. Supplied as 1 x packet of 100 seeds.

Directly sow borage seeds outdoors from March to May, as they germinate best in temperatures ranging from 15-25°C (59-77°F). While borage tolerates most soil types, it thrives in full sun on well-drained soil that has been finely tilled. When planting borage, sow seeds thinly at a depth of 6mm (¼") in drills spaced 30cm (12") apart, covering them with soil to exclude light. Maintain regular watering, especially during dry spells. Once seedlings reach a manageable size, thin them to 23cm (9") apart.
